The NIS2 Directive, the EU's cybersecurity legislation, builds upon the original NIS Directive from 2016, aiming to enhance cybersecurity across the EU. Initially focused on safeguarding National Critical Infrastructure, NIS addressed various threats, especially cyber-attacks, vital to the economy and broader society.
NIS2, an expansion of its predecessor, introduces stricter regulations, wider coverage across industry sectors, and heightened enforcement measures. It emphasizes supply chain security, bolsters incident response capacities, and introduces personal penalties, strengthening overall resilience for both public and private entities and the EU as a whole.
